Arsenal Are The Future Of English Football?

Following Wenger’s comments that Arsenal are still in with a shot of winning the league, striker Adebayor has claimed the team will be unstoppable soon.

However, this current Arsenal side isn’t a shadow of the team who famously went 49 games unbeaten a couple of seasons ago.

“When I look at our squad I think we’ll be unstoppable within the next two seasons,” says Adebayor. “With talented guys like Emmanuel Eboue, Cesc Fabregas, Johan Djourou and Theo Walcott, we’re the future of the English game and everyone can see that now.”

It is without doubt that Arsenal currently have a bunch of great prospects on their books, and if they fulfill their potential, then it is a safe bet their team will be battling at the top. However, great debate could be held over whether these youngsters will one day grow in to a force to rival Chelsea and Manchester United. Also, does the Premiership want the future of the English game to be a team with little to no English players?

    racist dribble at the end

No the Premiership title is clearly far more comfortable in the hands of a Russian crook or a pot bellied Yank instead of an English owned club.

Is that’s what is important? Who plays for the club? Or who owns the club? Before the likes of Abromovich and Glazer, did we even think twice about who owned the club?

And don’t pull the racist card, that’s too lame for words. Asking the question “does the Premiership want the future of the English game to be a team with little to no English players?” is not racist.

You’re right, Scott. It’s not racist. It’s nationalistic. By the way, should Arsenal buy players like SWP for 21 million pounds or players like Hleb for half the price? If you have enough money to buy players like Rooney, you do it. If you don’t, you have the choice to get players like Fabregas for a small compensation – or be like Spurs. Enough said. :)

Your comment is definitely not racist. Tribal maybe!
However on the subject of tribalism…how come that old and great Liverpool side of the late 70′s were never slated for harming the English game? Jock’s, Taffy’s and Mick’s the whole lot of them.

IL-Gooner, I think you’ll agree the choice isn’t buy SWP for £21 million, or buy foreigners on the cheap. It IS possible to bring through World class English players (and you’ll know, with your old pal Ashley Cole) and it is possible to sign great English players on the cheap… Joe Cole, Aaron Lennon etc. and then the amount of players in the England team who still play for the club that brought them from the youth system: Gary Neville, John Terry, Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Wes Brown.

I’m not saying we shouldnt have any foreigners in the league, or that Arsenal should get kicked out of the Premiership because of their lack of English players… rather just raising the topic of what is says about the future of English football, if the team who lead the way don’t have any English players. I think that’s fair enough.
